Is this course for me?

This innovative degree provides you with the skills and inside knowledge needed to work in festival and event management. During this course you’ll combine theory with practical work placements and gain a broad understanding of how events are planned, marketed, developed and run.

What will this course cover?

From the very beginning of this course you’ll mix both theory and practice. We link you with a local charity and help you to organise a variety of different fundraising events, giving you hands-on experience.

You’ll spend time focusing on the trends shaping the event and festival industry, with a strong emphasis on safety. You’ll take key modules in marketing, event strategy and hospitality. We’ll also teach you about events rights and merchandising, sustainability and logistics.

This dynamic course is constantly developing in line with a fast-moving industry. You'll finish your degree with the most up to date knowledge and skills, ready to enter employment.

Work at leading events and festivals

Subject to selection interviews, paid work experience will be available to you on this course along with a number of volunteering opportunities. Previous organisations include Reading and Leeds Festival, Glastonbury Festival, Goodwood, the UK Festival Awards, the London Marathon and Wembley.

In the second year of study you’ll spend time on an assessed work placement. Former students have done this with wedding planners and international events companies in Africa, Asia and Europe.

Why choose Buckinghamshire New University?

We have a strong teaching team at Bucks with a wealth of professional and academic experience. The course benefits from a number of industry links and there are extensive opportunities for work placements throughout your time with us. These placements are often paid and allow you to build your own network of contacts for the future.

Personal License and First Aid

While you are studying on this degree, you’ll be offered the chance to become a Personal License holder. This allows you to sell or supply alcohol at events or become a licensee at a registered venue. You’ll also take an Emergency First Aider course, which will further enhance your employability in this industry.

International study trips

Our international study trips give you the chance to visit event management companies overseas. This allows you to observe the professional environment and learn how international events can be operated. Previous trips include Amsterdam, Geneva, Dublin and Barcelona.

Modules

This module map provides a list of the modules that make up your course.

Each module is worth a specified number of credits (typically either 15 or 30 credits for undergraduate courses). Compulsory (or ‘core’) modules cover key subject knowledge, while ‘option’ modules enable you to develop your own interests. For a full-time course you must take modules worth a total of 120 credits at each level of the course. The number of option modules you can take depends on the number of compulsory modules at each level. You can find more information about how your course is structured via the Academic Advice pages.

Our teaching is informed by research and employer requirements, and modules change periodically to reflect developments in the subject area. In addition, where we have insufficient numbers of students interested in an option module, this may not be offered. If an option module does not run, we will advise you as soon as possible and help you choose an alternative module.
