Is this course for me?

In this course you will learn that there are many ways to be a performer. We will give you hands-on experience with the latest technology allowing you to explore the full range of screen, audio and inter-media possibilities, whilst having access to industry Professionals who will help you shape your work.

This exciting interdisciplinary degree programme fuses theatre, film, television and audio media placing the performer at the heart of creative process. You'll develop a broad understanding of the industry and spend time focusing on all aspects of production. We're looking for self-motivated and enthusiastic applicants who can demonstrate a strong interest in the arts.

What will this course cover?

During this course you will study a number of practical modules and learn physical and vocal performance skills. You’ll be taught by a range of professional experts, and once you master the core elements of performing, you’ll begin to look at unusual and experimental approaches to performance. In the theoretical and practical perspectives modules, you’ll look at the various ways that performance can be conceived and consider its importance in society, and have the opportunity to research into areas that interest you.

Throughout this degree you’ll create a series of shows, films, short scenes and devised performances. In your third year, you’ll set up your own theatre company and devise a production that you will manage from conception through to venue booking, marketing and performance. You can take optional modules, which give you the chance to specialise in an area of your choosing. This could be directing for performance, devising and writing or arts marketing. You’ll also be able to learn about how to work with cameras and gain invaluable knowledge of editing and filming.

Modules

This module map provides a list of the modules that make up your course.

Each module is worth a specified number of credits (typically either 15 or 30 credits for undergraduate courses). Compulsory (or ‘core’) modules cover key subject knowledge, while ‘option’ modules enable you to develop your own interests. For a full-time course you must take modules worth a total of 120 credits at each level of the course. The number of option modules you can take depends on the number of compulsory modules at each level. You can find more information about how your course is structured via the Academic Advice pages.

Our teaching is informed by research and employer requirements, and modules change periodically to reflect developments in the subject area. In addition, where we have insufficient numbers of students interested in an option module, this may not be offered.
