Course information

The course reflects business thought and practice with an emphasis, where appropriate, on the application of theory to real business situations, challenges and issues.

Case studies will be used to give you an in-depth understanding of how the different parts of an organisation support one another. Previously, for example, students have considered the project management issues involved with festivals like Glastonbury, the ethical concerns in the supply chains of cut flowers and the challenges of managing mega-events, such as the Olympic Games.

Our aim is to provide you with a business degree qualification that equips you for careers in local, national or international markets, encouraging you to go beyond an understanding of management theories to also be able to apply them confidently to real life situations. We strive to create a study environment which will encourage you to build up your awareness of the dynamic business environment and how current events impact this with real life case studies and current events analysed in seminars and used to explore the challenges of putting theory into practice. In addition, our strong focus on providing opportunities for gaining work experience, supported by both our careers service and our Faculty Employability Tutors, helps you gain the skills, knowledge and networks that build the exceptional profile employers are attracted to.

With 5,000 students and 300 staff, Coventry Business School is one of the largest in Europe, rated as ‘excellent’ by Eduniversal and ranked 11th in the UK for Business, Management and Marketing by the Guardian University Guide 2017. We are active members of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) and Chartered Association of Business Schools (CABS), as well as being signatories to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education (UN PRME) initiative.

Our students are attracted by the flexibility of the course, which provides an excellent grounding in the key areas of business, such as finance, human resource management, strategy, supply chain management and marketing, but then allows you to specialise as you progress depending on your interests and career aspirations, whether these relate to human resources, marketing, finance or supply chains, for example. Alternatively, you can choose to continue to study across the range of the functional areas of business.

Our dedicated faculty comprises commercially-aware practitioners with expertise in all the business disciplines, who bring their professional and/or research expertise into teaching. Many have worked for firms such as Oxford Analytics, IHS Intelligence Consultancy and GDF Suez, occupying senior roles in business analysis, marketing, project management and research.

We are looking for students who are curious about the business world, who want to develop strong networks between their peers and fully engage with the experts who teach them – not just our own faculty, but also the many industry experts who come to share their experiences and insight in topics as such as current HR challenges, managing the supply chains of mega-events and what graduate employers really want from new recruits.

International experience opportunities

The course has a diverse student body, as well as faculty from over 100 countries represented in the Business School, providing a multinational learning environment. We also have dedicated teams to help promote and support internship, study and work abroad planning; students are encouraged to consider these opportunities from the moment they join the Business Administration programme.
