Course overview

Top up a HND or a Foundation Degree to a full honours degree. Gain excellent communication and creative skills, valued by many types of employer. Prepare yourself for roles as a performer, choreographer and working within a variety of community, educational and professional contexts.

This course is designed to build on an HND or a Foundation Degree qualifications in dance. It combines degree-level theoretical studies with further training in performance.

The course covers both academic theory and practical skills. Modules include ‘Key Dance Practitioners’, ‘Physical Dance Theatre’ and ‘Dance Practice and Application’. You will also cover production topics such as creative use of lighting, props and costumes. The academic research of our staff feeds into teaching so that it is totally up-to-date.

Modular structure

Teaching is largely workshop-based with supporting seminars, lectures and independent learning. There are opportunities to work with practising artists and dance companies. Other opportunities include involvement in community projects and evening classes.

There are no examinations; instead your coursework is continually assessed. All modules end in performances or presentations and you will have public performance opportunities at all levels.

Part-time study

If you study this course on a part-time basis you will typically complete 40-80 credits in a year, rather than the 120 credits of full-time students. All modules are taught during the day time and you will be studying alongside full-time students.
