Course overview 

The content of the course mirrors the Sunderland-based equivalent course Advertising and Design. Our courses delivered at study centres share the same ethos, material and approach as those delivered at Sunderland itself. The course has core practice-based modules that include developing advertising campaigns, computer skills, creative portfolios, branding and identity.

This is a hands-on course and you will be encouraged to work in pairs as this is how the industry recruits. Forging relationships during the course is great preparation for the workplace and helps to maximise creativity. The course is industry-recognised and industry-focused.

Teaching and Assessment

Teaching is almost entirely practical and studio-based, supported by lectures, seminars and tutorials.  Our academic team encourage you to express ideas and push the boundaries of creative advertising. Assessment is almost entirely on a continuous basis.

  • Introduction to Digital Imaging (20 credits)
  • Visual Communication (20 credits)
  • Design Theory (20 credits)
  • Introduction to Motion Graphics (20 credits)

Year 2 (national level 5):

  • Integrated Campaigns (20 credits)
  • Branding and Identity (20 credits)
  • The Book (20 credits)
  • Graphic Communication (20 credits)
  • Design Theory (20 credits)
  • Motion Graphics 2 (20 credits)

Final year (national level 6):

  • Creative Team Campaigns (20 credits)
  • Design Research project (20 credits)
  • The Book 2 (20 credits)
  • Final Major Project (60 credits)
