About the course

BA (Hons) Hotel and Hospitality Management is a practical course, designed to prepare you for employment in the challenging arena of hospitality and hotel management.

Whilst you’ll learn about key parts of the industry and how it works at our Newport City Campus, you’ll spend the majority of your time gaining practical experience in the workplace, through our partnership with The Celtic Manor Resort, giving you the opportunity to learn 5* hospitality at this world renowned hotel. From housekeeping to front-of-house, this course will allow you to gain real experience of the hotel industry and what it takes to succeed. What you will study?


Year One:

 

You will study the following specified modules, alongside undertaking a work placement at the Celtic Manor.

  • Learning in the workplace - Celtic Manor
  • Work and organisational behaviour
  • Sustainable food and beverage management
  • Customer service and quality systems

Year Two:

You will continue a work placement with The Celtic Manor, as well as undertaking a 10 week block placement with Welsh Rarebits. Other modules studied will include:

  • Work based learning – 10 week placement with Welsh Rarebits
  • Professional Practice - work placement at The Celtic Manor
  • Digital marketing for hotels
  • Rooms division management
  • Strategies for revenue management
  • Research methods for business

Year Three:

Will allow you to specialise in a particular area/department as part of a 10 week placement at The Celtic Manor Resort. Other taught modules will include:

  • Professional Practice with Specialisation
  • Critical reflections on learning in the workplace
  • International culture and communications
  • International Business
  • Sustainable hotel operations
  • Hospitality consultancy project

Assessment

Assessment methods replicate activities required in the workplace. You will also be assessed using a variety of methods, including essays, group work, presentations and online applications.


Careers

Graduates can expect to enter employment or graduate training schemes within the industry. The hospitality and hotel sector operates all over the world, so you can go as far as your ambition and your talents will take you.

You’ll also graduate with key skills that employers in any sector will value, such as communication, reporting and presentations, as well as a significant amount of work experience on your CV.
