This course runs from 2017/18

The Air Transport Management MSc degree has been designed as a unique course that utilises the academic strength of Coventry University in air transport and management.

Delivery on this course is supported by industry experts and a key feature is very strong industry links developed through a programme of industry site visits. The course can be studied on a Part Time basis, enabling part time students to fit their studies around their professional careers.

Why choose this course? 

The course aims to develop managers who will be able to develop a skill set to make a significant contribution at the appropriate level to aviation management in the 21st century. Emphasis will be placed on the specific roles and skills of managers in problem-based real life situations.

The programme offers students the opportunity to study core business topics alongside specialist modules that deal with operations and strategy in the complex and fast changing aviation industry. .


What will I learn? 

You will study:

  • Air Transport Planning, Design and Operations;
  • Air Transport Strategy and Marketing;
  • Aviation Safety, Security and Emergency Planning;
  • Airline Strategy, Finance and Economics;
  • Air Transport Business Simulation;
  • Project Management;
  • Research Methods and Project Introduction.

In addition you must satisfactorily complete an individual and group aviation project.

A key feature of the course is the industry links developed through a programme of industry site visits (to airlines and airport both in the UK and potentially overseas), visiting industry guest lecturers and and individual project work. In Addition, there may be oppotunities for client-based project work. All students receive a subscription to a range of industry databases and subscription news services, including Flightglobal Pro throughout the course of their study.

How will this course enhance my career prospects? 

The award is seeking professional accreditation through the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) and has recognition from the industry through its Industry Advisory Board. The programme is designed to develop strategic managerial skills necessary to meet the challenges currently facing the aviation industry today.

As such it is an ideal route for professionals already working in the aviation industry who wish to broaden their skills. It is also relevant to graduates of other disciplines who are keen to develop their understanding of business and management within a complex environment which will allow entry to careers within the aviation industry.
