About the course

Got a passion for spectator sports? Want to work in the exciting world of sports television? This practical, industry-focused degree delivers the perfect blend of creative skills and technical knowledge required to broadcast sporting events across the world. You’ll gain the specialist skills required for live TV production and prepare yourself to work confidently with the latest broadcasting technology.

BSc (Hons) Sports Television Technology is situated within Southampton Solent’s vibrant School of Media Arts and Technology. Students benefit from extensive opportunities to collaborate creatively with TV production, engineering and audio production students, in addition to interdisciplinary collaboration with students from music, film, games, fashion and other media disciplines.

The course builds on an established degree provision across the School of Media Arts and Technology which has a proven track record of supporting students from a wide range of backgrounds and educational experiences to a graduate qualification. Our courses are designed to enable students to develop their professional identities and engage with the industries in which they aspire to work, as well as ensuring graduate level skills and abilities.

The curriculum itself seeks to cover the essential skills sought after by industry employers. These include production, engineering and technical project management skills. Having a base of knowledge in many different relevant areas helps improve student employability and ensures that graduates are suitable for a broad selection of roles.  


What does this course lead to?

Recent individual graduates have found employment at companies including Sky TV, CTV Outside Broadcasts, and Arena Mobiles.

Some companies specifically recruit from Southampton Solent, with NEP Visions (the UK’s largest sports outside broadcast provider) and Evertz Microsystems (manufacturer of instant-replay equipment) each taking on graduates for the last three years.

Graduates of the wider TV production programme have gone on to work on major productions such as Strictly Come Dancing, The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent. Others have forged successful freelance careers as specialist sports camera operators on the PGA golf tour and cycling’s tour series.

This sports television technology course is ideally-suited to sport lovers who wish to bring this into sports television production and build their knowledge of the technologies involved. The high practical content of the course will suite technically-minded individuals who want to gain hands-on experience.

Fees and costs

The tuition fees for the 2018/19 academic year are:
