Combining theory and practice, this course aims to provide a thorough grounding in international business management in an ever-changing global economy. Upon successful completion, it should equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to become a flexible, effective manager who can spot market opportunities and drive forward businesses to success in the international arena.
Alongside modules focused on business strategy, operations and analytics, we’ll cover the basic principles of marketing, and how they relate to an international context – where you will have the opportunity to discuss and analyse key managerial decisions on formulating and executing international marketing activities by having the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills of marketing concepts including environmental analysis, buying behaviour, strategic market segmentation and more. This will be done through active case studies and practical examples.
Through the use of guest speakers, real case studies and industry visits and fieldtrips, you’ll explore more about the external forces which affect business decisions, including but not limited to the influence some external/or market factors have such as fall or rise of oil prices or interest rates. We’ll discuss some of the biggest challenges and issues businesses now face, such as market uncertainties.
Please note that guest speakers, industry visits and fieldtrips are subject to availability, competitive application processes, meeting applicable visa requirements and additional fees may apply.
Why choose this course?
This programme seeks to create business professionals, upon successful completion, who not only understand the functions and processes that drive business and organisations forward today and the broad context in which they operate, but also appreciate the dynamic nature of international business and can respond to new global business trends and lead change successfully.
This course would be particularly beneficial even if you come from a non-business background. It is designed to adopt a broad multidisciplinary approach, which covers management and organisational theory, operational requirements, marketing and human resources influences on management, together with a solid understanding of the global trade environment and the complexities of global business issues, such as the potential and pitfalls of big data analysis. Coventry has been educating business professionals for over 50 years, and this course is one of two focused on international business, with Advanced International Business MSc being designed as a more specialist course for business graduates.
Through core modules, we will focus on building essential management skills, such as international leadership; international trade management; global markets and entry strategies and marketing in an international perspective. You will have the opportunity to engage with real business issues from highly innovative companies ranging from SMEs to large multinational corporations, throughout the whole course.
Using specialist software tools like the Global Marketing Management System online and other business simulation software, you will be encouraged to think strategically from the outset, and will have the opportunity to develop the practical skills needed to initiate and implement complex international business projects, as well as greater inter-cultural competence. For example, you may find yourself working on real-life projects for businesses in and around Coventry (subject to availability, a competitive application process, and fees may apply).
You will have the chance to benefit from a multicultural learning experience; you could be studying alongside staff and students from a wide range of nationalities. You’ll be taught by current staff with significant experience of the business world, who have worked as directors and consultants for many large multinational companies not only in the United Kingdom but also abroad. Please note that staff may be subject to change.
