This pre-registration Adult Nursing Apprenticeship Degree provides you with the knowledge, skills and confidence to work as a Registered Nurse. You will work as part of a team in various hospital and primary care settings, including medical and surgical wards, operating theatres, Emergency Departments, nursing homes and the community.
We offer apprentices a wide range of training opportunities and have an excellent reputation for delivering health and social care education.
The course leads to a bachelor’s degree (BSc Hons) over either three or four years of study at university and in the workplace. Please note that the 3-year course is full-time throughout the course. The four-year course is full-time in years one and two, part-time in years three and four.
Applicants should agree in advance with their employer Education/Apprenticeship Lead which course they will be applying for.

Year 1
Students are required to study the following compulsory modules.
- Human Anatomy & Physiology (Level 4) (15 credits)
- Adult Nursing: Principles and Practice (Level 4) (30 credits)
- Psychological and Sociological Perspectives of Health (30 credits)
- Preparation for Adult Nursing (30 credits)
- Academic Skills Preparation (15 credits)
Year 2
Students are required to study the following compulsory modules.
- Understanding the Pathophysiology of Ill-Heath (Level 5) (15 credits)
- Care and Support of Vulnerable Individuals and Groups (15 credits)
- Patient Pathways of Care in Adult Nursing 1 (Level 5) (30 credits)
- Patient Pathways of Care in Adult Nursing 2 (Level 5) (30 credits)
- Evidence and Research for Professional Practice (30 credits)
Year 3
Students are required to study the following compulsory modules.
- National and International Perspectives on Healthcare (15 credits)
- Learning and Teaching in Practice (Level 6) (15 credits)
- Care of the Acutely Ill Adult (Level 6) (30 credits)
Year 4
Students are required to study the following compulsory modules.
- Critical Appraisal Skills for Professional Practice (30 credits)
- Leadership and Management in Adult Nursing (Level 6) (30 credits)

Careers and placements
Will I have a work placement?
Your course will involve training in clinical practice through placements in hospital and community settings. You will have the opportunity to work alongside other health and social care professionals in planning and delivering care for patients and evaluating results.
Some of these placements can be provided by your employer and you will also have access to our extensive network of partners for external placements where needed.
What sort of careers do graduates pursue?
This course will enable you to further your career with your employer, as a qualified Adult Nurse. Our curriculum is approved by the Nursing & Midwifery Council. On successful completion of the course, you will be eligible to register with the NMC.
