COURSE OVERVIEW
Understanding and addressing the complex issues around ageing has never been more important. In the UK over the last 25 years, the number of people aged 65 and over has increased by more than 1.5 million and globally the population aged 60 and over is growing faster than all younger age groups.
Our Master’s degree in Gerontology and Ageing Studies will equip you with the specialist knowledge and experience to work with and for, older people, design policies, manage and deliver services, and create products for an ageing population.
You will gain a unique insight into the policy differences between the devolved countries of the UK and across the globe, as well as refining research and analytical skills valued by employers in this rapidly evolving field.
WHY GERONTOLOGY AND AGEING STUDIES AT SWANSEA UNIVERSITY?
We take a holistic approach in our Master’s and postgraduate programmes in Gerontology and Ageing Studies. We look beyond the traditional medical model of ageing.
Founded on a social model of care, instead we explore health and well-being among older people through a range of disciplines including psychology, sociology, and demography.
You will be based in the internationally renowned Centre for Innovative Ageing (CIA), the largest gerontology research centre in Wales and one of the largest in the UK, with unparalleled links with policy makers both in the UK and abroad.
The CIA is also home to the Centre for Ageing and Dementia Research (CADR), a multi-disciplinary research centre addressing internationally important questions in ageing and dementia.
As part of our College of Human and Health Sciences, you will benefit from a dynamic teaching and research environment, with many opportunities to make connections across disciplines.
