COURSE OVERVIEW
The LLM in Legal Practice and Advanced Drafting combines our Legal Practice Course (LPC) with an independent learning module, to enhance your essential legal skills and give you a valuable master’s level qualification.
The LPC is essential if you want to qualify as a solicitor in England and Wales. Adding this extra module, to upgrade the qualification to an LLM, makes you even more valuable to a potential or existing employer.
WHY LEGAL PRACTICE AND ADVANCED DRAFTING AT SWANSEA?
As a postgraduate student on a professional programme at the Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law, you will be part of a globally recognised law school, with a thriving academic environment committed to excellence in teaching, and offering an exceptional student experience.
- An LLM is an internationally recognised qualification that will enhance your CV and career prospects.
- You will be taught in dedicated LPC teaching facilities and a practitioner resource room with access to extensive electronic legal practitioner resources.
- You will have valuable networking opportunities and work experience placements.
YOUR LEGAL PRACTICE AND ADVANCED DRAFTING EXPERIENCE
You will be taught in both large group and small group sessions.
The large group sessions are similar to lectures but much more interactive. The small group sessions are practical workshops designed to replicate the work of a trainee solicitor.
As a trainee in these sessions, you will effectively act on behalf of fictional clients – developing the skills and knowledge you will need to deal with real situations that arise in professional practice.
These sessions will help build your confidence and legal skills in a friendly, professional, and rewarding environment.
Throughout the course, the emphasis is on developing your business awareness as well as transferable skills.
You will also produce a project of approximately 15,000 words on a drafting topic of your choice. You can complete this module at your own pace, with a choice of topic, chosen in consultation with your supervisor.
LEGAL PRACTICE AND ADVANCED DRAFTING EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
The LPC completes the academic requirements to work as a solicitor, meaning you can then move into training with a law firm.
Successfully completing a drafting project to gain the LLM will show your enhanced legal skills to a potential or existing employer to boost your career prospects.
We have an established work placement programme, enabling students to secure training contracts and paralegal positions.
