We understand how difficult it can be for busy professionals to develop their knowledge and expertise, and this course recognises this fact. Each unit combines two or five study days which provide opportunities to engage in a real-life clinical environment and work-related development activities. Over a three month period, our experienced and supportive course team will help you develop a critical, analytic and reflective stance towards medical and healthcare education, with a particular focus on the use of simulation.
The course focuses on a critical approach to simulation and its uses. This is a flexible, blended learning programme designed with the needs of busy medical and healthcare professionals in mind.
The course is composed of the core unit (where you also spend time in the University simulation centre) plus one second optional unit (either Workplace Based Learning or Contemporary Educational Perspectives) and is designed to help you develop a sound theoretical basis to your practice as a medical educator, both within simulation and in your wider role as a clinical educator.
The course is endorsed by the Academy of Medical Educators; this means on successful completion you can apply for membership through the ‘fast track’ accredited course route. The course therefore provides a sound basis for evidencing your competence as a medical, dental or healthcare educator and trainer using Simulation.
The course enables you to adopt a critical stance to your own and others’ educational practice and to propose ways to enhance student and trainee learning experiences. You will rehearse these skills through opportunities for hands-on simulation activities and online work. This course will equip you with the skills and understanding to provide excellent and enjoyable training opportunities using simulation to less-experienced professionals in your field.
