TEACHING AND ASSESSMENT
Year 1
In your first year there’s a strong focus on global business and the principles of marketing.
Digital marketing is vital in today’s world, but it’s important to understand traditional techniques too, and how to use both as part of a successful marketing campaign. Customers are increasingly interested in companies’ ethics and their approaches to sustainability, so we’ll touch on that too. We’ll also explore business law, and financial analysis and management – the cornerstone of any successful business.
All assessment is designed to allow you to demonstrate what you’ve learned, and to make sure you’re developing the knowledge and skills you need to complete the course. You can expect an interesting mix of coursework, essays, exams and activity-based assignments. Your coursework could include problem-solving activities, consultancy projects, presentations as well as group or individual reports. You’ll also be able to access support materials supported by materials accessed through our learning management system, Canvas.
Modules are subject to change and availability.
Year 2
This year we’ll explore several types of tourism – including heritage and gastronomy tourism – as well as the issues that all tourism professionals need to be aware of. These include globalisation, and the social, economic, and environmental consequences of tourism.
We explore the principles of project management, and get out and about in Cambridge, learning about different aspects of the city’s tourist industry: from cultural and visitor experiences to festivals and events. Field trips will give you the chance to put your learning into practice.

Year 3
One of the watchwords in tourism is sustainability, and we’ll explore it in detail during your final year. Firstly, we’ll look at ways of creating and running a sustainable, responsible and socially aware business. Then, we’ll look at the social and economic consequences of tourism and how in some areas, the industry is seeking to bring more widespread benefits to local communities and poorer areas of the world.
You’ll also have the chance to address a current business issue, working as part of a team on your Undergraduate Major Project.
