Working in a large, modern, international organisation, a medium sized company or even a small start-up firm requires a range of business capabilities. The most valuable employees are those who combine an understanding of the various parts of a business with the skills of being a quick learner and team player with leadership potential. The MSc Business with Financial Management programme will give students the general business knowledge and understanding as well as the personal skills needed for a wide variety of roles.
This programme is run as part of our Newcastle Business School, part of a select group of business schools worldwide, following accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in business and accounting – the first in Europe to gain the double accreditation. Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees in business and accounting.
This option offers the opportunity to spend three months gaining all-important work experience and employability skills in a professional work setting. You may be able to extend this over more than one semester in cases where it is adjacent to a vacation period. Support is provided to help source opportunities and to perfect the applicant CV but ultimately the onus is on the student to secure the internship position.
As part of our ‘Business with’ collection of programmes, the MSc Business with Financial Management is designed to give you an overall understanding of the inner mechanics of business, whilst building the general skills desired for a wide variety of roles and growing your business acumen. It is also your chance to focus in on financial management and perfect if you are looking to develop your understanding of a fundamental aspect in all businesses.
The programme is designed around a set of modules that are common to all ‘Business with’ pathways. These modules cover general business functions, strategic management and organisational analysis and will develop your strategic awareness, leadership potential and understanding of international business.
In the second semester you will be given the opportunity to specialise in Financial Management. In the remainder of the programme you will complete your research and writing up of your dissertation. Every student has a personal research supervisor and will be required to submit an assessed research proposal prior to embarking on the dissertation itself.
Graduates on the programme have joined a wide range of businesses, including graduate training schemes. A significant number of graduates have gone back to work for a family business or even started up their own businesses.
Upon successfully completing your course, you may undertake further professional development and training through Professional Pathways programmes. These are offered to our graduates for free, from our partner, QA.
