This accredited four year extended degree introduces you to the fundamentals of mathematics before continuing onto one of London Met’s undergraduate courses.
In the foundation year (Year 0), you’ll learn the basics of programming, cyber attack prevention, computer networking and mathematics. We’ll show you a range of mathematical techniques involving algebraic properties and graphs of the algebraic, logarithm, exponential and trigonometric functions. By understanding how to use precise mathematical arguments and solutions with the right notational and stylistic conventions, you’ll be ready for further undergraduate study.
Our mathematics degrees are supported by a range of specialists. The staff include maths and programming lecturers, learning managers, academic mentors, success coaches and personal academic tutors.
When you join London Met, you’ll have access to world class facilities. We have highly advanced CISCO labs, an IT security and forensics lab, electronics and microprocessor labs and creative technology labs for you to use throughout your degree
We also have connections to major companies, including CISCO, Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle and IBM. Our in-house employment unit provides you with opportunities for paid work experience, the emphasis being to develop skills that will improve your employability after graduation.
Assessment
There is a continuous assessment approach which includes:
- regular online quizzes
- lab-based tests
- short answer tests
- individual and group assignments
Diagnostic and other formative assessments will help us identify if and where you may need individual support.

After the course
Our mathematics students have gone on into careers as chartered accountants at Brackman Chopra, secondary school and self employed maths tutors, junior accountants at IMS Insurance Group and many more. The sectors you can enter generally include scientific research, design and development, management services and computing, financial work, statistical work, teaching and postgraduate study.
What is an extended degree?
Extended degrees provide applicants with an alternative route into higher education. If you do not have traditional qualifications or cannot meet the entry requirements for an undergraduate degree, you may still be able to gain entry by completing an extended degree. Extended degrees include a Year 0, which is also known as a foundation year. Once you successfully complete your first year of study you will progress into Year 1 of an undergraduate degree.
