Solent’s British Computer Society (BCS) accredited software engineering programme teaches you how to apply proper engineering techniques to software development projects, building effective software products for desktops and mobile devices.
The hands-on software engineering programme supports students as they develop a valuable combination of software engineering competency and general business and employability skills. Graduates will be proficient in a range of technologies including Java, Android, Oracle SQL, PHP, Web API’s, JSON, HTML5, jQuery and big data analytics.
Students learn from an academic team with extensive experience in business computing, computer systems, business analytics, databases, web development and software engineering. The course team also maintain a strong professional network – which helps them to offer students support as they look for work experience placements and graduate employment.
Students are able to select optional units in the third and second year of study. These units include: mobile app development, emerging web technologies, and advanced databases. Selecting optional units allows students to tailor their degree to an area they would like to progress into after graduation.
Software engineering students are also supported to develop a range of transferable skills throughout the course. These include project management, communication and problem solving skills.
