Course Overview
The MA in Early Modern History allows you to roam from the fifteenth to the eighteenth centuries, encompassing the renaissance, reformation and counter reformation, and the enlightenment periods.
You can study British, European, American or Asian History, supported by the diverse expertise of early modern historians working at Swansea University.
Additional modules cover the history of art and culture, empire, gender, politics, religion, sexuality and science are all covered.
A 60-credit dissertation project in the second part of the course will concentrate on a topic of your choosing, in consultation with a supervisor.

Your Early Modern History Experience
You will study a set number of optional 20-credit modules, before undertaking a 60-credit dissertation project of your choosing in the second part of the course.
Varied modules include historical methods and approaches, communicating history and reading medieval manuscripts. There may also be the opportunity of a heritage work placement, worth 20 credits.
At Swansea you will find an impressive array of Early Modern History research resources for postgraduate study. In addition to the general holdings in the University library, the National Library of Wales at Aberystwyth is within travelling distance and we also work closely with the National Galleries and Museums of Wales.
There is a postgraduate common room and an electronic resources room available in the James Callaghan Building.

You will develop excellent oral and creative writing skills, and learn to present your ideas in a range of formats.
