COURSE OVERVIEW
The MA in History allows you to traverse fascinatingly different periods of history, from the middle ages onwards.
You can study British, European, American or Asian History, supported by the diverse expertise of historians working at Swansea University.
Additional modules cover the history of art and culture, empire, gender, politics, religion, sexuality and science.
You will benefit from an unusually high concentration of historians at Swansea, as well as the wider presence of the College of Arts and Humanities Research Centres, the Callaghan Centre for the Study of Conflict, Power and Empires, and the Richard Burton Centre.

History at Swansea University has an established profile and attracts great numbers of respected historians to study, research and teach.
The College of Arts and Humanities is based on our inspirational Singleton Park campus, in parkland overlooking Swansea Bay.
Designed to promote individual and collaborative research activity of international standard, the Graduate Centre provides a supportive environment for postgraduate research and taught masters study.
Postgraduate training is available to enhance academic and professional development, as well as seminar programmes, workshops and international conferences.
YOUR HISTORY EXPERIENCE
You study a set number of optional 20-credit modules, before undertaking a 60-credit dissertation project of your choosing in the second part of the course.
Varied modules include historical methods and approaches, discovering Old English, Wales since 1945, Swansea and the sea, communicating history and reading medieval manuscripts. There may also be the opportunity of a heritage work placement, worth 20 credits.
At Swansea you will find an impressive array of research resources for postgraduate study. As well as the general holdings in the University library, the National Library of Wales at Aberystwyth is within travelling distance and we work closely with the National Galleries and Museums of Wales.
There is a postgraduate common room and an electronic resources room available in the James Callaghan Building.

Graduates from this course enter a range of industries including education, government, marketing and advertising. They also undertake research degrees and pursue a career in academia.
