On our four-year BA Global Studies with Business Management (including foundation year), we work with you to develop your subject-specific knowledge, and to improve your academic skills. You receive a thorough grounding in these areas during your foundation year (known as Year Zero) to prepare you for a further three years of undergraduate study at Essex.
The challenges facing today’s world are profoundly international. From the migrant crisis to global warming, contemporary challenges require graduates who bring a global perspective and broad skills to the workplace. Our course gives you the opportunity to study the unique combination of Global Studies and management.
With our BA Global Studies with Business Management you’ll explore a range of subjects so that you develop the widest possible understanding of complex global issues whilst obtaining a grounding in management.
You study topics including but not limited to:
- Climate Change
- International Relations
At Essex we train our students to be fearless and independent, to question everything and to draw on the broadest possible range of facts and ideas.
Based in our Interdisciplinary Studies Centre (ISC), you will have a broad mix of humanities and social science topics to choose from, including modules covering history, sociology, literature, film, philosophy, and art history.
Essex has more start-up businesses than any other county in the UK. We teach you to take control of your career in business and create ideas, products and services with real value, and with our global understanding of business in established and developing markets, you’ll have the best foundation for your future career.
Essex Business School is an intellectual community of more than 2,000 international researchers, students and entrepreneurs.
Your education extends beyond the university campus. We support you in expanding your education through offering the opportunity to spend a year or a term studying abroad at one of our partner universities. The four-year version of our degree allows you to spend the third year abroad or employed on a placement abroad, while otherwise remaining identical to the three-year course.
Studying abroad allows you to experience other cultures and languages, to broaden your degree socially and academically, and to demonstrate to employers that you are mature, adaptable, and organised.
If you spend a full year abroad you’ll only pay 15% of your usual tuition fee to Essex for that year. You won’t pay any tuition fees to your host university
Alternatively, you can spend your third year on a placement year with an external organisation, where you learn about a particular sector, company or job role, apply your academic knowledge in a practical working environment, and receive inspiration for future career pathways. You will be responsible for finding your placement, but with support and guidance provided by both your department and our Student Development Team.
If you complete a placement year you’ll only pay 20% of your usual tuition fee to Essex for that year.
