At the heart of Solent University’s media production top-up programme is a commitment to hands-on learning and student employability. Written in collaboration with media production professionals, this one year course helps students to obtain the broad range of skills that employers in the media industry are seeking while providing a firm foundation in relevant academic theory.
The curriculum also places a focus on critical thinking, writing and presentation skills that are relevant to a wide variety of industry roles. These transferable skills are vital in ensuring that graduates can pursue varied employment opportunities.
Solent University’s media academy is a hub for creative students at Solent, providing access to green screen studios, post-production suites and a range of audio production facilities. Our large post-production facilities feature Mac Pro computers and the full Adobe Creative Suite for editing, colour grading and special effects.
Students studying in the School of Media Arts and Technology benefit from a schedule of high calibre guest speakers and visiting fellows. Recent talks have been given by Anne V. Coates (Oscar winning editor), Paul Franklin (Oscar winner for visual effects on Inception), Brian Tufano (cinematographer on Trainspotting, Quadrophenia and Billy Elliot) and Sir Alan Parker (director of Fame, Evita, Bugsy Malone, The Commitments and Mississippi Burning).
What does this course lead to?
As a graduate you’ll have a wide range of roles available across various creative, advertising, marketing and entertainment-related industries.
Graduates have gone on to a variety of media roles, including junior producer, editorial assistant, graphic designer, production researcher, and website and app developer.
Who is this course for?
This media production top-up is designed to help students with qualifications at HND level (or equivalent) to ‘top-up’ to a full degree in just one year.
Candidates should be comfortable with hands-on media production and ready to start work on a major dissertation project.
