Make an impact in your community and help develop the future of sport on this unique sport coaching and sport development degree. You’ll take part in community projects, industry placements and professional accreditations before graduating well prepared to tackle the challenge of a career in sport.
This course combines theory based study of sport coaching and sport development with practical project management skills, helping prepare you for graduate-level roles in the sports industry.
You’ll build a strong grounding in the principles of coaching, exploring areas such as sociology, management, sport policy and sport development. You’ll be encouraged to put this into practice through work placement and volunteering opportunities with one of our many local partners. Work experience opportunities have previously included placements in local sports clubs, community projects and schools. Graduates leave the course with a range of experience at all levels of youth sport.
You’ll also have the opportunity to participate in the Community Innovation Programme. Working alongside industry practitioners, you will be responsible for researching, creating and implementing a community project for social change. This is a two year process which commences in the second year of study (Level 5) and ends in the third year (Level 6). You’ll work to deliver a sporting intervention that uses sport and physical activity as a tool to address a variety of social issues in and around the Southampton area. This initiative offers valuable industry experience and is unique to Solent University.
