Professor Olek Zienkiewicz, internationally recognised as the „Father of the Finite Element Method„, joined Swansea University in 1961 as Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, and was Emeritus Professor of the University until his death in 2009. During his career, he supervised over 70 PhD students, many of whom now hold leading positions in academia and industry. He also founded the first journal dealing with computational mechanics in 1968 (International Journal of Numerical Methods in Engineering), still the major journal in the field of Numerical Computations.
YOUR COMPUTER MODELLING AND FINITE ELEMENTS IN ENGINEERING MECHANICS EXPERIENCE
Over the course you will use mathematical modelling and computational methods to solve complex problems.
You will learn techniques that play an increasingly instrumental role in industry and understand how methodology can be applied to fields such as medicine and the life sciences.
Your studies will be based at the Zienkiewicz Centre for Computational Engineering, which has excellent computing facilities including a state-of-the-art multi-processor supercomputer, with virtual reality facilities and high-speed networking.
