Do you love fashion? Dream of seeing your designs on the catwalk? Solent’s fashion degree will help you learn the key knowledge required to succeed in textile design, from pattern-cutting and garment production to the industrial production process and the business of fashion.
The course provides students with in-depth knowledge of the fashion industry, from garment design, pattern design and production to concept development, trend forecasting and fashion marketing. Students are encouraged to experiment and explore new techniques to help develop their creativity and individuality.
Students have free access to our industry-standard facilities including specialist machine rooms, digital and sublimation printers and a range of laser cutters. Students also have access to modern design suites equipped with the latest creative software.
To complement their degree studies and gain valuable hands on experience, students are encouraged to attend work placements during the course. Past students have had placements at fashion companies such as House of Holland, Timberland, Alexander McQueen, Fat Face, Ted Baker, Topman, Marks & Spencer, Matthew Miller and Jenny Packham.
Students on this course can get involved with retail activities at Re:So, Solent’s stunning student-run store. Re:So sells a unique mix of fashion, accessories, publications, furniture and art. The store’s upper floor ‘learning zone’ has previously hosted guest speakers from the fashion industry, workshops, photo-shoots and exhibitions – all with an emphasis on developing student retail, enterprise and employability skills.

Graduates have gone on to roles including assistant buyer, brand assistant, business development and brand co-ordinator, fashion design assistant and online visual merchandiser – working at a wide range of companies including Fat Face, Nougat, Ariella Fashions, Zara, ASOS, Ted Baker and Next.
