Looking to pursue a new and exciting career in football? Already employed in a sporting role and want to take on a more senior position? Solent’s challenging, industry-focused football, development and business management master’s programme will help you gain an understanding of the football industry and enhance the skills required to gain employment and progress your career within a football context.
Through exposure to theory and practice at local, national and international level, you’ll develop a critical understanding of the football industry and its core business principles. You’ll also gain an understanding of how business and management principles can be applied to the football industry, and how football also represents a unique market with its own economic and cultural makeup.
You’ll examine the responsibilities and challenges associated with football business professionals, organisations, agencies and governing bodies, while developing a critical understanding of the political and economic climate in which football clubs operate, and the correlation between football and politics, policy and development. You’ll also have the opportunity to gain a deep insight into international sport marketing and management theory and practice, learning from professionals working in related industries.
Additionally, you’ll develop your critical knowledge of football governance across a variety of areas. This includes the operational management of national and transnational leagues, competitions, and international events. The growing scale and significance of sports ‘mega events’ means there is an increased requirement for those working within the industry to understand the impact of the expenditure of public and private resources on connected developments in infrastructure, architecture, transport and tourism.
A key element of the course curriculum is the research paper, and you’ll be supported in developing your understanding of the postgraduate research process, as well as the theoretical and procedural requirements of critical investigation. You will learn how to apply this knowledge to an area of in-depth individual study that interests you and is relevant for your chosen career development ambition.
The diverse core modules and option units mean that you can focus the course towards your individual interests and career aspirations.
