COURSE OVERVIEW
Genetic research is an exciting and rapidly evolving field that has an impact on the field of knowledge, including understanding disease and development. This 4-year major is an advanced bachelor’s degree by adding a year to a research-oriented one. This will give you in-depth knowledge of the basic components and life on earth. The MSci program is a continuation of the BSA course in the field of genetics, but offers specialized training in a wide range of laboratory techniques. In the elaborated study, an extended research project. Analyzing gene expression, protein interactions, structures and basic DNA, image analysis of biomolecules and cells, and advanced analytical methods. Development of the best analytical and project management and programming skills.
WHY GENETICS AT SWANSEA?
We were one of the first universities in the UK to introduce Genetics as a BSc discipline in the 1960s, so we have a long and respected track record in the field, and have now been ranked Top in Wales for Biological Sciences (Complete University Guide 2018 and 2019).
You will benefit from access to the Medical School’s state-of-the-art research facilities, including DNA and protein analytical equipment, computer-based image analysers for molecular and cellular studies.
We are ranked 3rd in the UK and top in Wales for Medicine (Guardian University Guide 2019) and ranked 1st in the UK for research environment and joint second for research quality.
