BSc (Hons) Mathematics Education (11-16 years) with QTS is a fast-track to teaching. It takes just three years to be a fully qualified teacher, compared to the four years it takes to do a degree and then a one-year PGCE.
This course will deepen your knowledge and skills in Mathematics, and then train you to become a teacher at Secondary or College level.

Course structure
This course is taught via lectures, tutorials, seminars, and independent learning.
In your final year the emphasis will be on practical experience and learning, and you’ll spend 120 days on placement in schools or colleges.
Your progress will be assessed with reports, exams, presentations, and computer-based assessments. Throughout the degree you’ll have one-to-one support from academic staff.
The first two years of this course focus on Mathematics with the final year focusing on teaching skills and experience.
Employment
This degree awards Qualified Teacher Status, which means that when you graduate you’ll be qualified to teach in any state-maintained school in England and Wales.
Good teachers are always in high demand. The average starting salary for a teacher is £22,000, and experienced teachers can earn up to £56,000 outside London, and £64,000 in London. Head teachers can reach a salary of between £42,379 and £112,000.
Teachers also benefit from excellent holidays, and the teachers’ pension scheme is the second largest public sector pension scheme in the UK.
Work placements
Placements are an essential part of this degree. You will spend at least 120 days working in schools and colleges, gaining a true understanding of what being a Mathematics teacher involves, and using your new skills and knowledge.
