Solent University’s Media and Film Studies subject area was ranked 15th in the Guardian University League Tables 2019.
The course is split into three separate strands, each covering a unique area of the curriculum. On the theory strand, you’ll examine a range of academic approaches and industry issues. These include global media markets, consumer habits and the construction of audiences.
The production strand will see you getting hands-on with a range of professional media equipment, refining your production skills and building a portfolio of high-quality work. You’ll work across a range of mediums and genres, creating original audio and video projects and managing the process from initial planning right through to post-production.
Finally, the employability strand will give you the opportunity to apply your new skills. You’ll undertake 100 hours of work experience before reflecting on your placement as part of a work-based learning unit. You’ll also work on live-briefs or case studies, developing an understanding of what it is to work on the front lines of creative media.
