COURSE OVERVIEW
Our BA (Hons) Politics and Welsh (2nd language) degree can open up a range of exciting career possibilities by helping you to develop transferable skills, which are highly valued by employers.
The three-year degree involves exploring British and European politics, public policy, political theory and philosophy, as well as developing your Welsh language skills, including translation and contemporary Welsh literature.
You have the chance to take an internship with the Welsh Assembly Government and a British Parliamentary Studies module, partly taught by expert staff from the Houses of Parliament.
You will also be taught by prominent authors and poets – our staff includes two chief poets and winners in the Book of the Year competitions in Wales.

In 2017 and 2018, graduates of this course have won the main Learner’s Prize at the Urdd Eisteddfod.
You will study in one of the select departments in the UK to offer the British Parliamentary Studies module, where you will be taught by our specialist academic staff and Members of Parliament, and you will visit the House of Commons.
You will have the competitive option of undertaking an internship module with the National Assembly for Wales, working closely with Assembly Ministers.
You can apply for the Coleg Cymraeg Main Scholarship of £3,000, as well as the University’s General Scholarships.
YOUR POLITICS AND WELSH (A PATHWAY FOR SECOND LANGUAGE STUDENTS) EXPERIENCE
We offer varied and flexible course content, so you can shape your Politics and Welsh degree to your own interests.
Topics include British and European politics, public policy, political theory and philosophy, electoral issues, democracy and International peace and conflict, as well as Welsh language skills, Welsh at the workplace, working in two languages, translation, multiculturalism and the Welsh language, and contemporary literature.
Teaching is informed by our world-leading research and you can attend seminars organised through our guest speaker programme.
You will have an academic mentor for any pastoral and academic support you may need.
