Overview
Learn the science of sports coaching and how to apply it in different situations, and to people of different ages and abilities.
This innovative course will give you a thorough grounding in sports coaching and physical education, drawing in many disciplines that include human movement, pedagogy, child development, physiology and psychology.
The course content will complement the personal skills and knowledge you’ve developed as a coach and will introduce you to sound theoretical and practical concepts that you can apply to coaching individuals, classes or teams around the world.
Specific modules will train you in different aspects of physiology, psychology, sports science and performance, as well as practical coaching techniques, research methods, exercise testing, psychological profiling and long-term athlete development.
In your final year you’ll carry out a major research-based project – and throughout your course you’ll have access to a specialised sports laboratory equipped with latest technology and analytical equipment.
By the time you graduate you’ll have a sound applied understanding of the relevant theories, strong all-round scientific and personal skills, and the ability to work in line with UK or international coaching qualification and practice guidelines.
Equally you’ll be well-prepared to operate in any coaching situation, study for professional or Masters-level qualifications or pursue high-level sports research.

Our graduates go on to careers coaching all age groups and athletic abilities, as well as non-sports fields where developing talent and maximizing its potential are important skills.
