On our Creative Advertising and Art Direction degree you will learn how to produce advertising and creative content, in a range of media, to enable you to be adaptable for any creative department for a diverse range of audiences. You can specialise in art direction, copywriting, moving image, experiential, digital content and a variety of other visual and written branded communications. Created in partnership with internationally renowned advertising agency M&C Saatchi, the degree has a strong employment focus, your skills are built up over practical modules, critical and research modules and industry modules. There is a lot to learn but we all believe it should be fun.
Graduates will be able to pursue careers in private and public companies, for creative advertising agencies, 360° agencies, experiential, content and digital agencies and for the charity sector.

What you will study
Year 1
The first year provides a broad range of skills and introduces students to audiences – you are rarely talking to yourself in advertising. It introduces you to briefs, idea generation, strategic thinking, visualization, working in teams, working across media, materiality, film process, presentations and to a variety of media theories and issues of identity and representation.
Year 2
The second year allows students to personalize their degree more by tailoring practice-based modules. You start to go into M&C Saatchi in rotations for mentoring on live advertising projects and delve deeper into branding and content. Consumer Culture asks you to think deeply about consumption, sustainability and commerce.
Year 3
The third year launches students into a more professional arena. You learn to think about the wider creative team and how to brief them and how their skills shape an idea in Black Book, where you also present your body of work. You devise and project manage an Advanced Project based in a significant body of research and explore the potential of mediated environments and future-facing technologies in Brand Worldbuilding.
Careers and placements
Will I have a work placement?
We have two dedicated modules that give experience of agency work and address professional practices, establishing networks, and development of creative advertising portfolios.
In addition, in Year 2, students respond to a series of live industry briefs and attend award shows – Our lecturers have had a number of student winners for D&AD competitions.
M&C Saatchi will take a small number of competitive placements from the degree group between year 2 and year 3.
How long is my placement?
Work-based learning module placements normally last a week to a month depending on the individual companies.
What are the financial arrangements?
Dependent on individual companies.
