Overview
This Master’s degree aims to expand your capability and expertise in computing or IT related fields. The course focuses on the underlying theories of computer science and their practical applications in the latest technological developments.
The course aims to provide you with a sound understanding of essential development platforms, protocols and standards with an emphasis on computer architectures, artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data analysis, internet security and the development of web-based and mobile applications.
The course is designed in consultation with industry professionals to deliver an up-to-date syllabus with the latest technology and employment trends. The course is designed and delivered with input from our industry contacts.
Upon completion of the course we aim for you to acquire advanced skills and knowledge which could lead to careers such as computer system designer, programmer, consultant or researcher.
You will have the chance to study in our modern Frank Whittle Building (Engineering and Computing Building) with well-equipped laboratories and industry standard software.
Work placement option:
This master’s programme provides you with the additional option to apply for a ‚work placement’ opportunity during your first semester with us. The ‚work placement’, which if secured, is designed to further develop your skills, knowledge and professional experience with the aim of maximising your employability prospects. Please note that the optional placement modules incur an additional tuition fee of £4,000.

Course information
This professionally accredited degree combines theories and practices in programming, computer architecture and networking, design and development of computer systems, with neural networks, machine learning, cloud computing and intelligent information retrieval.

We offer excellent facilities, so you can learn core technical competencies of disciplines such as computer hardware, software development and current advanced technologies, using industry-standard equipment, including Microsoft and CISCO, as well as industrial strength collaboration coding platforms, such as Github.
We have a highly experienced team of staff, many who have worked in computer security, software development and computer systems others conducting internationally-rated research in fields such as web development, pervasive computing, artificial intelligence, distributed systems and computing for the creative industries.

We offer you the chance to participate in field trips to a number of different overseas locations, which have previously included China, Poland, Spain and Finland (subject to additional costs and availability).
