Overview

This clinically focused course is offered to qualified physiotherapists who wish to develop their practice to a higher level. It provides students with the opportunity to develop their assessment, clinical reasoning and treatment skills in the three core areas of practice: cardiorespiratory, musculoskeletal and neurological physiotherapy.
It also aims to improve students’ employability by enhancing clinical, management and leadership skills, so that successful graduates can influence practice and service delivery, working in line with government initiatives.

Course information

We have a range of taught postgraduate awards to suit your needs, from Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma to a full Master’s Degree (MA, MBA, MSc, LLM). In most cases you can decide to exit at Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma level, without carrying onto the full Master’s qualification.

(PTES, 2018) The teaching team comprise staff who are both experienced in teaching and also clinical experts. Students will be learning in our new purpose-built Science and Health Building which has state-of the-art skills labs, simulation models and technological support. Staff view supporting student transition to learning at master’s level as an integral part of their teaching role and past students have found this support to be a valuable contribution to their academic development.

In addition, students should develop interpersonal skills and cultural competence from learning alongside a globally diverse group of students in both the physiotherapy classes and the inter-professional classes. Finally, one of the great benefits of postgraduate study at Coventry University is the opportunity to undertake the Global Professional Development module, which has been developed in partnership with the Chartered Management

Institute. Students will have opportunities to develop skills in strategic leadership and consultancy and on successful completion will gain additional qualifications from CMI.

International experience opportunities

MSc Advancing Physiotherapy Practice recruits students from many different countries: from the UK and Europe to India, Japan, Thailand and the Middle East. Each student brings their own experience of physiotherapy from their home country so that students area able to gain a global experience of physiotherapy as they learn alongside physiotherapists from different backgrounds. Within the course there are opportunities for students to learn with physiotherapy students from our partner Universities in other countries.

This course will equip you with advanced physiotherapy skills to develop your clinical practice and service delivery. It will enhance your employability and potential to move into higher positions in physiotherapy.

As well as providing opportunities to develop advanced clinical physiotherapy skills, the course well enhance students’ understanding of research and evidence based practice. In addition, students will develop their communication and leadership skills to a higher level. All of these skills will allow graduates to move into higher positions within the field of physiotherapy and wider health and social care, research or education.

To prepare students for the challenges of the global employment market and to strengthen and develop their broader personal and professional skills Coventry University has developed a unique Global Leaders Programme.

The objectives of the programme, in which postgraduate and eligible undergraduate students can participate, is to provide practical career workshops and enable participants to experience different business cultures.
