Our supportive course team tailor the content to ensure a more hands on/practical aspect to this course teaching you the different types of intelligence and skills needed to be effective in your future career.
The course covers a wide range of intelligence-related subject areas, or domains, and links them to an understanding of the all-important need for intelligence to be an embedded, rather than distinct organisational function.
What will I study?
The course will help you develop and grow your analytical skills, and the content is closely aligned to the needs of employers.
You will study business modules so that you can apply the intelligence to a business context, rather than just security, to help bolster your career options.
We will also help you develops life skills essential to future employment, such as critical and analytical thinking, problem solving, time management, people management, self-confidence, personal organisation and independence. You will finish the degree with a well-rounded portfolio for prospective employers.
In year one, you will grow your knowledge of intelligence processes, such as the police National Intelligence Model. You will also develop your understanding in issues in global security, policing and crime, business and management concepts and critical
infrastructure (such as transport and energy) – all targets of intelligence analysis and counter-intelligence activities. The first year will set you up for success in your subsequent years of study.
In your second year, you will grow your knowledge and understanding of structured analytical techniques (SATS), using the range of techniques against case studies sourced from current and proposed events.
Enhancing this are subjects in counter-intelligence and a development of understanding of technical and communications intelligence so that they can demonstrate an understanding of information collection requirements with technical collection agencies. Commercial intelligence helps refine the students understanding of business and the relevance of analysis in this sector. The subjects in the second year will prepare you for success in the third year.
In your final year, you will hone, refine and grow your confidence in professional skill sets using tailored, realistic and challenging scenarios to challenge and stretch you, preparing you for employment.
