COURSE OVERVIEW
The Foundation Degree in Healthcare Practice is designed for healthcare workers who are currently working in an assistant capacity in a range of healthcare settings.
The course values practice-based learning and recognises the value of students’ life experiences as a learning resource. The course will build upon your practice experiences by offering a range of learning opportunities where practice can be further developed. You will embark on a journey of active, independent learning with appropriate support from academic and clinical staff.
The knowledge and skills you will acquire during this work-based course will equip you to promote health in a diverse and changing society, through a range of caring interactions.
The course will foster your development as a reflective, compassionate healthcare practitioner, who is able to promote safe and effective care within a multi-disciplinary context. The experiences gained on the course will help you to provide and maintain healthcare of the highest quality.

The course is designed and delivered in partnership with local employers and service users and offers a practice-led and competency–based curriculum based upon the NHS Constitution and its inherent values.
There is a strong emphasis on work-based learning which will facilitate and enhance your development. Participation in this course will assist you to improve service users’ experiences of healthcare and extend your scope of practice, subject to employer needs.
The course has been mapped to the Nursing and Midwifery Council approved pre-registration Nursing course at the University of Bedfordshire so students (if they wish) can apply to join the second year of a pre-registration course, subject to normal entry requirements.
