Overview
Designed to deepen your knowledge of management as a discipline, and enhance your professional skills, this flexible course allows you to convert your prior learning into a master’s qualification upon successful completion.
Aimed at professional managers with at least two years of professional experience and prior learning to PGDip level, the course covers the production of a research project, developed in collaboration with your employer, which will look to investigate a ‘live’ management issue. This project will cover a written component, as well as a digital artefact, such as a web page, which can allow your findings to be easily shared with your employer and colleagues.
Delivered flexibly by practice focused academics, successful completion of this course can enhance your knowledge of management theories and how to apply them, which could help you to develop as a manager and learn the skills needed to progress in your career.

Course information
This course is taught within Coventry Business School, and benefiting from our over 50 years of teaching business degrees, this course is aimed at professional managers, with at least two years of experience, who have prior learning up to PGDip level in a subject which contains relevant management content. Typically, this prior learning will have been delivered by professional bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, the Chartered Institute of Marketing or the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
You will then work, in collaboration with your employer, to initiate and deliver a project focused on a ‘live’ management issue, which should allow your work to benefit both yourself and your employer, who through a digital artefact should be able to easily disseminate the findings throughout the business.
Alongside the Management Research Project module, you will also study the module Research Management Skills, which will give you the opportunity to learn the skills needed to design the research for the project, to collect the relevant data, and then to analyse it and present your findings.
Why choose this course?
If you have two years of management work experience*, and prior learning to a PGDip level, successful completion of this course will see you produce a practice focused research project, allowing you to gain a master’s qualification while developing your skills in problem definition, critical thinking and decision making.
Alongside tackling a ‘live’ management issue, which will give you the opportunity to enhance your practical management and project skills, you will also learn about management as a discipline, and explore how to apply management theory to real-world situations through investigation.
In addition to allowing you to gain a master’s qualification upon successful completion of the course, the course aims to bring real benefits to your employer, who should be able to access and share your findings easily through your digital artefact, which could be a web page or interactive PDF. Alongside the production of this artefact, you will also have the opportunity to develop your communications skills, to help in presenting your findings to invested stakeholders.
Taught by practice focused academics, with experience of management from a practitioner and academic perspective, and designed to be flexible around your work, this course is a great way to try to further develop your management skills through focusing on a relevant and authentic research project.
