Studied on campus or 100% online, this master’s aims to develop your knowledge and understanding of key aspects of Business and Organisational Psychology.
Upon successful completion, and through practical case studies, you will understand the individual, team and organisational factors that can affect workplace behaviours, such as decision-making, personnel selection and recruitment, motivation and teamwork, as well as the tools and techniques to manage such situations.
As the course progresses, you will have the opportunity to develop their understanding of psychological and behavioural research design and analysis. Core modules include key Business and Organisational Psychology areas including work and wellbeing; psychological assessment at work; leadership, engagement and motivation; and learning, training and development.
We offer a dedicated module in consumer psychology, which examines advertising psychology, brand management, the selling process and time management. We also provide you with the chance to enhance your critical thinking to develop key academic and research skills.
A core part of the degree should be your literature review and business plan which comprises a supervised, but independently undertaken project. This will offer you an exciting opportunity to investigate in depth an area of specific interest, and alongside the review you will formulate a business plan or business idea related to the chosen topic. Topics can be anything from remote-working to zero hour contracts – you will also be contributing to the current understanding and practice of Business and Organisational Psychology.
This professionally accredited course provides an applied and theoretical basis for evidence-based Business and Organisational practice. Upon successful completion, a sophisticated understanding and strategic insight will have been developed into how Business and Organisational Psychology aids the understanding of personnel selection and recruitment, consumer behaviours, employee motivation and engagement, leadership in practice, and the impact of globalisation on organisational behaviours. It aims to equip you with the expert knowledge required to develop your skills in workplace wellbeing, personnel assessment and job-related effectiveness at an organisational, supervisory and individual level.
You will be taught by academics, many of whom benefit from practitioner experience either as a Business Psychologist or through consultancy-based work, which has previously included organisations including Royal Bank of Scotland, West Midlands Fire Service and Ricoh UK. Many are research active too, bringing cutting-edge knowledge in work-life balance, emotional resilience, stress management and wellbeing into the classroom, providing the opportunity for students to collaborate on applied projects. Existing projects have ranged from the development of psychometric tests to looking at the impact of technology on work-life issues. Please note staff may be subject to change.
If you choose the ‘With Professional Experience’ route*, you will have the opportunity to gain substantive professional experience and have the option of applying for an internship with a host of different organisations or participate in supervised, campus-based projects. Internships have previously been organised within the University Organisational Development Unit, as well as with public health agencies, schools, forensic science laboratories, the NHS, police, prison service and various charities.
