This part time MSc Executive Coaching and Development has been created for those who wish to commence their careers in professional coaching and mentoring. Equally it has been developed to provide an opportunity for established coaches and Human Resource / Organisational Development professionals to enhance their knowledge and practice.
The ethos of this course is to provide the knowledge and skills you need in a flexible approach. Via the study of core contemporary and seminal research you will examine theories of coaching and mentoring, underpinning psychological approaches along with coaching cultures and behavioural insights.
This course provides a clear path to start or develop your career in Executive Coaching and Mentoring. Organisation are increasingly regarding coaching as a key element of leadership and management development.
What you will study
Year 1 – Mirroring the ILM Level 7 Certificate in Executive Coaching and Mentoring
This core year provides the basis for coaching practice and allows for integration into the world of academic practise. Whilst obtaining the knowledge for Executive Coaching and Mentoring, practical skills will be developed.
Modules for year 1
– Managing Professional Development and Postgraduate Studies
– Coaching Theory & Professional Development
– Undertaking Coaching for Senior/Strategic Management
If you hold a ILM Level 7 Certificate and coaching experience already you can fast track onto year 2.
On completion of these modules you can leave with the PG Certificate in Executive Coaching and Development or you can progress onto year 2. You will also be able to obtain the ILM Level 7 Certificate in Executive Coaching and Mentoring.
Year 2 – This flexible year provides the opportunity to choose a practical work based approach or a taught route.
This year will take an in-depth look at the underpinnings of coaching and mentoring. Areas to be examined will include coaching supervision, coaching cultures and underpinning psychological factors impacting development and performance.
Modules for year 2
– Theories and Concepts in Coaching
– Psychological Perspectives of the Self
– Strategic Coaching Management and Supervision
On completion of these modules, you can leave with the PG Diploma in Executive Coaching and Development or you can progress onto year 3.
Year 3 – This will enable you to complete a research study within the field of coaching and mentoring.

– Coaching Research Report
On completion of these modules you can leave with the MSc Executive Coaching & Development
Teaching
The course will be delivered via block part time delivery. Each year the first modules will take place 2 days a month (September & October) The subsequent modules will take place one day per month.
Each module will have 4 days of taught input.
Guest lectures will be a key feature of this programme.
This course is closely linked to the Wales Coaching Centre and this affords great opportunities to engage with the Coaching network.
Assessment
You will be assessed via a range of methods including portfolios, essays, presentations and reflective accounts.
The assessment is through 100% coursework. Skill development inputs will take place throughout the course to prepare you for the assessment. This will mean you are ready to maximise your learning and development.
