Why choose this course?
Fintech is a rapidly growing sector, with investment in financial technology increasing by more than 2,200% between 2008 and 2015, to a total figure of more than $22 billion. The sector covers startups as diverse as Klarna, who provide online payment solutions, and Xero, a fast growing online accounting software firm, to established financial institutions, who are investing heavily in technology to improve their services.
By studying this course, you have the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills needed to work across the Fintech sector. Alongside an understanding of key financial theories, and how technology can disrupt and improve them, you will have the chance to learn the key skills needed for a future career in a fast moving, innovative sector, such as leadership, an ability to embrace and manage change, and skills in analysing data to inform decision making.
Financial services are also global by nature, and financial technology is no different, with key clusters of activity around major financial centres such as London, New York and Hong Kong. However, there are also growing financial technology clusters in cities such as Amsterdam and Stockholm, as well as in countries in South-East Asia, such as the established centre of Singapore and more emerging markets like Vietnam and Indonesia. With this global footprint, and a diverse, international workforce, graduates entering the industry are expected to have a strong international outlook, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues from different cultures. By studying at Coventry Business School, you have the opportunity to be part of a typically diverse learning environment, both amongst students and staff, and also have the opportunity to attend field trips at both a school level, as well as at a university level.
Taught by an academic team with a mix of industry and research experience, and with teaching informed by the Centre for Financial and Corporate Integrity research centre, this course offers a strong mix of theory and practical application, in an internationally diverse environment, which should help support you as you look to progress into a career in the Fintech sector, or in finance more broadly. Please note staff may be subject to change.
Please note that international opportunities and field trips are not guaranteed and may be subject to additional fees, availability, application and meeting any applicable visa requirements.
