The MSc Leadership and Management has been designed for professionals working at middle to senior management level, who are seeking to enhance the knowledge and skills required for effective leadership and management in the complex, dynamic environments faced by organisations across all sectors today.
This postgraduate course can immediately add value to your working practice and to your organisation. You will be supported to build your knowledge and skills so that you can research effectively, develop strategy, lead and manage change and build a culture of high performance.
The Leadership and Management course adopts a philosophy of continuing professional development, where you will undertake work-based projects and complete an extensive work-based dissertation, to be of strategic value to your organisation. This course has been designed to offer a dual accreditation route with the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Level 7 Diploma in Leadership and Management – a pioneering approach within the UK.
Delivered on a part-time basis, you will study with students from a variety of backgrounds at weekend sessions, normally delivered over three years. Students can fast and slow track if required.
What you will study
The MSc Leadership and Management will give you the opportunity to explore the behaviours and the role of leadership and how it may influence the individual, the team and the organisation. Theories of leadership will be discussed and applied to your own leadership practice and that of your organisation.
Organisational leadership themes relating to power, politics, ethics, gender and cross-cultural leadership will be considered.
Significant leadership and management processes will be studied such as creating an environment for constant change; understanding and moulding organisational culture; building trust and a high performance team culture; managing and leading complex networks, alliances and partnerships; and the contribution of Human Resource Management.
We will also explore new and cutting edge approaches to leading including critical studies that have questioned the nature and necessity of leadership in organisations.
Students normally study for the full Master’s degree which is 180 postgraduate credits. However, exit awards are available: the achievement of 60 credits would give you a Postgraduate Certificate in Leadership and Management and 120 credits would give you a Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership and Management. Studying a further 60 credits will enable you to achieve a MSC in Leadership and Management.
