The globalisation of the business world, coupled with heightened competition, increasing customer expectations and rapid technological advances, has fuelled the demand for projects of all types across almost every industry.
Organisations are looking for professional project managers with the knowledge, skills and expertise to drive forward new ways of working and implement change successfully. Throughout the course, you will have the opportunity to address a range of complex project management issues using different international and organisational examples, with the aim of equipping you to lead projects across different geographical boundaries.
This Master’s course aims to prepare you, upon successful completion, to become a successful leader in the field of project management, and currently holds academic accreditation from the Association for Project Management, the chartered body for the project management profession. The course also offers you the opportunity to study a module accredited by the Chartered Management Institute, meaning you can develop leadership skills alongside specialising in the key skills needed to be an effective project manager. If you wish to build upon your existing knowledge of business and management to take on more of a project leadership role, this course has been designed to respond to the increasing demand for project management in the public sector, business services, events management, utilities, charitable organisations and many more.
We aim to provide you with a solid understanding of the strategic value of project management to businesses, focusing not only on the skills required to manage projects effectively, but also the wider application of how projects deliver strategic change and how they interface with different disciplines in organisations. This includes looking at methods of risk management endorsed by the Project Management Institute (PMI) and Association for Project Management (APM).
The MSc in Project Management course holds academic accreditation from the Association for Project Management, the chartered body for the project management profession (Please see the Accreditation and Professional Recognition section for further details). On successful graduation, you should possess the skill set to help you to be a senior project manager or researcher, with the relevant soft skills to work with and manage a wide variety of stakeholders, including delivering presentations, communication, leadership, problem solving and creativity.
A key feature of this course, along with its accreditation, is that it is aligned with the APM Body of Knowledge which is a highly recognized set of project management guidelines used by many companies across UK and Europe. We will also expose you to Projects in Controlled Environments (PRINCE2), which is used extensively by the UK Government and widely recognised in the private sector, both in the UK and internationally. You should obtain the skills and knowledge to achieve a PRINCE2 foundation certificate in project management, subject to passing the required exam, should you wish to take it. (subject to availability and application, and fees apply to undertake PRINCE2 qualifications).
The programme is delivered by teaching staff that have had professional industry experience in the management of projects both in the UK and across the globe, such as projects in the area of marketing, healthcare, agriculture, sustainable energy, software engineering, construction, and industrial manufacturing.
