COURSE OVERVIEW
Study a high-level university qualification and achieve Senior Leader status with our Senior Leader Masters Degree Apprenticeship. You’ll gain a Master of Business Administration (MBA) while you work, with no tuition fees.
Our blended Senior Leader Master’s Degree Apprenticeship (SLMDA) uses our unique expertise to develop leaders and managers who are equipped to face the future and create thriving initiatives in challenging times.
Good leadership and management are critical to success. Our SLMDA is a dynamic course designed to help develop your key leadership and management capabilities within a professional, work-related context. The programme will enable you to continue to earn while learning and apply your knowledge to improve your leadership skills within the workplace.
Course modules cover the full range of business skills, including: Strategic Leadership, Marketing Planning, Organisational Behaviour, Strategic Management, Operations and Project Management, Leadership and Change, Finance for Decision Making, Human Resources Management and Leadership and Entrepreneurial Action.
Our MBA programme is ‘dual accredited’ by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). This means that the content of our degree has been mapped to a CMI qualification and enables you to gain an additional CMI level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management & Leadership qualification as part of your academic studies.
Once the end point assessment has been completed you will become a member of the CMI and will be granted the CMgr designation which remains valid as long as you continue your professional registration and maintain continuing professional development (CPD).
Our SLMDA takes two years to complete and offers you the additional benefits of CMI Affiliate Member status from the start of your course. 20% of your learning will be classed as ‘off the job’, which means that you’ll be learning during normal working hours either in your place of work or outside – but not part of your normal working duties.
You will also attend four senior management workshops per year that will cover executive education, incorporating guest speakers, module content and networking opportunities.

MODULES & ASSESSMENT

Strategic Leadership
This module explores strategic leadership and how leadership of an organisation’s strategy contributes to an organisation’s performance. You’ll compare practically relevant ideas and frameworks that facilitate strategy and implementation, with a critical review of classical theories and more contemporary views, including emergent, collaborative and ethical perspectives. Designed to offer practical and problem-oriented learning, the emphasis is on how the leader can take strategic concepts and gain insight into competitive situations and strategic dilemmas faced by organisations. -
Marketing Planning
The module offers two themes: to critically understand the tools, techniques, operations and activities of the marketing process in the first instance, and the marketing decisions on which effective marketing management and planning are based in the second. The aim is to help you develop diagnostic skills in understanding marketing effort and the development of marketing operations from management decisions. You will also develop the ability to link external or environmental market dynamics with organisational response. -
Organisational Behaviour
This module seeks insights into behaviour in organisations and will develop your critical awareness of contending theories of organisation and management, especially processes. You will examine the most relevant topics and challenges faced by organisations, and their impact on human behaviour and effectiveness. -
Strategic Management
A fascinating discipline that studies the long-term purpose and direction of organisations and how to achieve competitive advantage. You will apply core frameworks and analytical techniques to assess organisational capabilities and resources, and evaluate strategies for shared value and sustainability. -
Operations and Project Management
Transforming multiple resources into products and services is a vital area of competence for managers. This module evaluates service and manufacturing philosophies to illustrate management perspectives that link operational with corporate strategies. This module also considers the nature of the project environment, the role adopted by the project manager and the relationships between projects and the objectives of the sponsoring organisation. -
Leadership and Change
Here you will investigate and critically evaluate historical and contemporary approaches to leadership theory, including traits, behavioural and contingency theories, emotional intelligence, psychodynamics and leader-led relations. Strong emphasis will be placed on the application of these theories to your own personal leadership with a view to enhancing your performance to prepare you for management roles in the future. -
Finance for Decision Making
Management decision making is a complex subject involving many variable factors. This module explores the financial factor and the techniques that might assist informed management decisions. It is assumed that you will have already acquired a knowledge of financial vocabulary, the concepts behind basic financial terminology and the financial statements. You will advance these skills by considering the availability of financial information that may be relevant to decision making, how they contribute to arriving at an informed decision, a review of the type of decision and differing requirements, leading to a more bespoke deliverable information set that meets the context of the decision. -
Human Resources Management and Leadership
This module aims to provide you with the capacity to identify Strategic Human Management Resources (SHRM) issues impacting on, or influenced by, the leadership of organisations, in recognition of the complexity of managerial, leadership and operational challenges. You’ll be encouraged to take a critical view of traditional and contemporary SHRM and leadership theories and their application and value in dynamic organisations. SHRM in the international business context. -
Entrepreneurial Action
Here you will undertake a major project that focuses on your understanding and execution of entrepreneurial management in an area of specific interest to you or your organisation. You will be expected to: identify the opportunity; develop a case for its worthiness and value to business practice; develop a project plan; acquire the appropriate resources and support to develop and deliver the project; manage the project from idea to action; reflect on the project’s development and outcomes.
Assessment
The End Point Assessment comprises of two assessment areas:
- Project showcase, based on a work-based project, including a report, presentation and questioning
- Professional discussion, based on a review of your portfolio
Throughout the apprenticeship there are a range of assessment activities including a strong emphasis on work-based projects as well as presentations, case studies, reports, critical reflection and written assignments based on your work environment.
You will also be completing an online development portfolio which will contain evidence of your workplace learning demonstrating the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs) assessed by the professional discussion. Evidence may include reports, minutes, stake-holder/customer comments, performance reviews and presentations.
The topic of your work-based project will be agreed with your employer and supervising tutor to ensure that it is of benefit to the business and relates to both the academic and KSBs.
There are no traditional examinations.
