Part of our comprehensive range of postgraduate LLM programmes, the LLM in Commercial Law offers you a specialist pathway for indepth study in law relating to business.

Designed to give you a broad, contextual and critical understanding of the area of commercial law, the course covers the operation of judicial, legislative and administrative action in relevant domestic, European and international contexts. Diverse choice of modules


Pursuing an LLM enables you to focus in on a particular area of law by delving deep into the subject and undertaking independent research and learning. The modules available on the LLMs cover a diverse range of legal topics, making it possible to tailor the course towards the specific areas of law you wish to pursue further.


Teaching backed by the latest research


The School has a thriving research culture and most members of staff who teach on our LLMs are active researchers, publishing in leading journals. At the same time, the high quality of teaching in the Department has been recognised by the Quality Assurance Agency, which awarded the Law School an ‚excellent’ rating. You can therefore expect to participate in carefully-planned, lively and highly informative sessions designed to give you a deep and thorough grounding in your chosen area of law.

Commercial Games Development


This Master’s in Commercial Games Development provides students with an intellectual experience of study in the field of games development. Created and delivered by staff with both research and games industry expertise, it is designed to meet the increasing shortage of adept games developers, designers and programmers. The course offers a unique pathway into the games industry and wider related research.

You will be engaged in advanced research and game development/design activities alongsidePlayWest, UWE Bristol’s in-house commercial games studio. Each member of the cohort plays their part in the development team according to their prior experience: those with more experience or a related degree will help guide the cohort as a senior developer/designer, while others will take on the role of standard developer/designer.

During the course, you will develop a portfolio of live commercial and research projects, gaining practical experience, academic skills and a deeper awareness of commercial processes as you work in your multi-disciplinary game dev-team.

A rich stream of live PlayWest research and development projects with industry partners that have previously included Rolls-Royce Aerospace and Bloodhound SSC, allows you to explore the application of games technology and methodologies, as well as virtual and augmented reality for real-world applications.

By giving equal weight to both the research and games development aspects, the course aims to establish an essential bridge between ground-breaking academic research and the entertainment software industry, each often overlooked or misunderstood by the other.

By helping students form strong professional identities as developer-practitioners, graduates will be well prepared to step into roles within the games industry, academia and other emergent fields of games development for the real world.

The degree provides an immersion into enterprise, cutting-edge technologies and game design practice. Unique study facilities


PlayWest is one of a group of Enterprise Studios at UWE Bristol created to give students opportunities to work on live and funded commercial projects whilst undergoing their study. The studio is involved in high-impact work with a growing list of exciting industry partners and is based in the Foundry Collaboration space.

All principal members of the teaching team have AAA-studio experience.

The Games Technology subject area is part of „PlayStation First” program giving access to current PlayStation Dev-kits.

Civil Engineering

Career Development


Follow your aspiration to become a career development professional by choosing one of our Career Development courses. The Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) Career Development, approved by the Career Development Institute (CDI), forms the basis of progression to the Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) Career Development. Progressing to the Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) Career Development offers you the opportunity to complete the Qualification in Career Development (QCD), which is awarded by the CDI.

On completion of the QCD, you’ll be qualified to provide personal guidance in schools and colleges. Build on your learning by progressing further onto our master’s course, allowing you to specialise as a research practitioner. If you register for the MA from the outset, you’ll have the added benefit of being eligible for postgraduate loan funding.

Building Surveying


The MSc in Building Surveying is an innovative course for graduates who wish to follow an accredited route towards qualification as a Chartered Building Surveyor and/or Chartered Building Engineer.

You don’t need a specific undergraduate degree or related professional experience to study this course. Designed for students from anywhere in the world, the course delivery is accessible to a wide audience with diverse personal and professional backgrounds.

UWE Bristol has developed this course through extensive consultation with employers, in order to offer a comprehensive programme of study. Our links with the profession, locally and nationally, help us maintain a high employability record.

This course is fully accredited as a postgraduate route way to the desired chartered status.


Real-world input


The course’s teaching staff includes Chartered Building Surveyors with many years’ experience, and we have input from visiting practitioners and speakers. The course also draws upon the research authorship and consultancy carried out in the department.

You will have access to a coherent programme of study in building surveying, underpinned by staff research and consultancy that reflects and answers the needs of professional practice. This will enable you to become an effective member of a building surveying team within a relatively short period.

On the course, we encourage you to examine the links between theoretical concepts, research outputs and the practice of building surveying, while developing your academic skills within a professionally defined framework. Building Information Modelling (BIM) in Design Construction and Operations


Building Information Modelling (BIM) in Design, Construction and Operations is fast becoming the industry standard approach to designing, analysing, and managing building lifecycle. On this course you will learn a holistic approach to everything from design and construction to maintenance, operation, and sustainability from industry and research experts using state-of-the-art BIM software. You will also benefit from regular talks from BIM experts and close links to the industry and BIM Regional Hub: South West.


Hands-on experience and world-class research


A unique feature of this course is that you have the opportunity to be placed with a company to deliver a BIM Organisational Strategy and a BIM Implementation Plan. You will also provide companies with BIM research that has real business value producing an organisational strategy and implementation plan to ensure their BIM is aligned with business strategy. You will then research a BIM-related topic of your choice in-depth for your dissertation.

The expertise in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology sets this course apart. The MSc in Building Information Modelling (BIM) in Design Construction and Operations is challenging, as we cover a lot of ground, and prepare you in all aspects of BIM, so you are better equipped for employment. To do this we split the course, so its half theory and half practice, using the latest modelling and management, analysis and visualisation tools. You will learn to understand the complete building lifecycle, exploring innovative sustainable and collaborative practices in building information modelling and management, and examine a range of existing and emerging BIM issues.

The Government’s Construction Strategy says all publicly funded projects must now meet the BIM protocol and is pushing for faster adoption of BIM. But, with a lack of skilled professionals, there are major obstacles. This fast-growing area is perfect for anyone looking to respond to this challenge and seize opportunities.
